About Banning The city is named after Phineas Banning, a famous stagecoach line owner. The then-town of Banning was once a major stagecoach stop between Arizona and Los Angeles, earning it the nickname Stagecoach Town, USA. Banning is a part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. This city is conveniently situated along Interstate 10 with Beaumont to its west, Cabazon to its east, and mountain ranges to its north and south. Banning is neatly tucked between the Inland Empire and the Coachella Valley in the San Gorgoinio Pass. Stunning views of Mt. San Gorgonio and Mt. San Jacinto can be seen from the windows of one's home. With housing ranging from low-income to dream homes and everything in between, Banning is a friendly and down-to-earth place to work and raise a family.
Recreation With an ample water supply and lots of clean air, many chances for outdoor and water activities present themselves to residents of Banning. The new Repplier Park Aquatic Center has a large recreational pool with two water slides and many water play features. The center also has a snack bar and cabanas. A wide range of swimming lessons are also offered at the center for anyone age 3 and up. The Community Services Division runs all the public sports fields, parks and community centers in Banning. The department also provides quality leisure and recreational classes, programs, activities and events for the community.
Education Within 50 miles of the city there are 23 colleges, which include California Baptist University, Claremont McKenna College, Pomona College, Scripps College and the popular University of California at Riverside. Public grade schools in Banning are provided by the Banning Unified School District whose mission is to nurture life-long learners and to cultivate productive citizens. The school system enrolls about 5,000 students and operates 8 schools and an alternative education center which houses an independent K-12 school and an adult school. |
